The great philosopher Plato once said: “The beginning is the most important part of the work.” I had to think about that recently, when we were designing the plans for the new gallery in Oisterwijk with the MPV Gallery team.

In my life I have repeatedly stood at the crossroads of renewal. I'm an adventurous type by nature, so I always choose the unknown. But reinventing yourself again: it is and remains one of the hardest things there is.

I also hear it regularly from artists. Leaving behind something that has partly determined your identity and to which you have become attached, and then come out 'differently' is exciting. You distance yourself from the familiar, the familiar and explore, only to end up being a beginner again.
Change is a beautiful process that can only happen if something old is overwritten.
