Moments of Silence | Martin Werthmann

3 February - 24 March 2019
Overview

On Sunday 3 February, the exhibition MOMENTS OF SILENCE by artist Martin Werthmann will open. We are very pleased to be able to show Martin Werthmann's works in our gallery for the first time.

Werthmann cuts patterns in wooden plates and prints them on paper in several layers that form the final unique collage-like end result. At first glance, the works appear to consist of an aesthetically captivating array of motifs and textures, but upon closer examination, the images reveal a juxtaposition of images of tragic events with everyday elements such as picturesque landscapes and water surfaces. The dimensions of Werthmann's prints, up to 2 by 3 meters, are impressive and unique for woodblock printing.
Berlin-based artist Martin Werthmann (1982, DE) studied from 2004 to 2009 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg.
