Tom MartinBorn in 1986 Wakefield, England. On completing his studies at the University of Huddersfield, Tom Martin began exhibiting work in London with the Plus One Gallery. Since that time he has exhibited work in numerous group and solo shows worldwide in major cities such as New York, Montreal and Melbourne. He has also participated in various art fairs, such as Art London and SCOPE New York. Most recently a three month solo presentation of his work is being exhibited at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in Indiana.
Martin’s work consists primarily of painting but of sculpture also. At present the work examines the role money plays on our lives and the function it has within society as a whole. The paintings are mostly executed in acrylics on specially made panels at a range of sizes. On average they take 6-8 weeks to complete, but have been known to take up to 6 months. It is not Martin’s aim for the end paintings to resemble directly any one photograph. They are always made with reference to multiple sources including direct observation from life, giving them higher clarity and a more defined physical presence. Tom Martin continues to work at his home studio in South Yorkshire, England.
